Bee Balm (monarda didyma)
This member of the mint family grows to five feet high. It does spread, but not uncontrollably. The leaves smell wonderful and make a good tea. The variety we grow is a brilliant red in mid-summer. It is highly attractive to pollinators and to hummingbirds.
For the month or more that the bee balm flowers next to our porch, we have hummingbirds visiting all day.
