Red, white, and pink currants belong to the species Ribes Rubrum. They produce some of the most beautiful colors and exquisite flavors in the world of pomology. The cuttings are very easy to root, just stick them in the ground and keep weeded and watered for the first year. Extremely cold hardy.

I can’t imagine a summer without handfuls of red, white, and pink currants. They are the most refreshing snack on hot days and a jewel to the eyes.

Ribes Rubrum are small shrubs that can thrive in the sun or shade, the garden or the woods.

Red Cultivars

Rovada- our most productive red currant, ripens a week or two after Jonkeer van tests. Great for fresh eating or preserves. Stout shrubs growing to about 3-4 feet high and wide

Jonkeer van tets- From the Netherlands, outstanding flavor and very large red berries. A lankier, taller shrub that tends to flop over without support. The first of our red Currant cultivars to ripen.

Tatran- Very productive late season red currant from Czechoslovakia. Great flavored fruit

Rolan- It’s hard to say, but possibly the best flavored red currant I’ve tried. Mid season ripener.

Red Jade- Upright, stout small stout shrub. Medium sized tasty late ripening berries.

Cherry Red: Wonderful red currant, small flavorful abundant berries. Bushes stay upright and manageable at 3-4 high and wide

White Cultivars

Imperial White- later ripening, short spreading shrub with absolutely delicious fruit

Russian White- Given to us by an old Russian friend, small, early ripening abundant berries, look like jewels and taste like candy

White Pearl- Upright shrub bearing huge crops of delicious beautiful fruit

Pink Cultivars

Gloire De Sabons- tall upright shrub, fruit is amazing, actually amazing. Everyone who tries the fruit is surprised by its beauty and wonderful flavor.

Pink Champagne- another outstanding pink currant ripening a couple weeks after Gloire de Sabons
