Schisandra (schisandra chinensis) is a vine from China that produces a powerful fruit. It is said to be a five flavored berry, sweet, sour, salty, bitter, and pungent. According to Chinese medicine these five flavors balance five organs, heart, lungs, liver, kindneys, and spleen. The flavor of schisandra is unlike anything else and is almost impossible to describe. The berries are said to increase energy, enhance stamina, and boost cognitive function.

The vines themselves are tough plants, hardy to zone 4, they do well in sun or shade.

Germination: Schisandra needs warm and cold stratification. Soak seeds for 24 hours and then pack into damp sand or another media. Place bag on top of fridge for 2 -3 months for warm period and then 2-3 months for cold period.
